Position Overview |
The Development Director guides the Annual Development Strategy, provides visioning for future development, working with the Executive Director in reaching fundraising and development goals. |
Supervision Responsibilities |
Oversee development contractors as appropriate (as needed: event planner, social media, grant writer). |
Education |
Bachelor's Degree in administrative, business, non-profit, marketing, or music. |
Experience & Qualifications |
1. Organizational and Staff Values fit. 2. People Skills: relationship-building, emotional intelligence, collaboration, communication. 3. Established professional background in fundraising, marketing, communications (3-5 years). Preferred: Capital Campaign experience, Major Gifts experience. |
Other Qualifications |
Strong oral and written communications skills; strong organizational skills; time management skills; computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Canva, Wix, Bloomerang, Mailchimp); familiarity with accessing and using contact databases; social media management experience; ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks; driver’s license and proof of valid automobile insurance; flexible work schedule to include some weekends, weeknights, and holidays; background check required. |
Section 1: Visioning
Develop a diversified annual strategy involving grants, corporations, individuals, events, contracts, government funds, and more.
Forecast revenue projections based on fundraising performance.
In collaboration with the E.D., drive forward progress on the Capital Campaign.
Section 2: Grant Management
Lead development meetings focused on upcoming deadlines.
Manage grant and reporting deadlines.
Collaborate with appropriate program staff regarding needed grant information.
Write and submit grants, in coordination with contracted grant writer, as appropriate.
Coordinate with the Office Manager in maintaining grant documentation.
Section 3: Individual Donors
Coordinate with the Office Manager in creation of correspondence for donations.
Generate funder communications, including the Annual Report and newsletters.
Oversee direct mail and online campaigns.
Create and oversee strategy for major donors.
Section 4: Events
Facilitate donor tours and on-site events for donors.
Plan and execute two major fundraisers, responsibilities include:
Vendor/contractor oversight.
Development and dissemination of mailings, communications, social media, and website.
Support of fundraising strategies at the event (e.g. auctions, raffles, etc.)
Maintain guest and sponsor list.
Track revenue from the event.
Section 5: Public Relations
Inform and oversee the development of a singular, compelling brand launch.
Oversee contractor for implementation of the social media plan.
Manage the organization’s LinkedIn page and organizational website.
Write press releases and media alerts, developing contacts with media outlets.
Section 6: Donor Database
Research, prospect foundations, corporations, prioritize likely funders.
Oversee the Office Manager in entering accurate information into the database.
Generate reports to enhance understanding of appropriate next steps (e.g. donors without gifts in the current fiscal year, donors who make end of year gifts vs. donate at events)
Other duties as assigned.
