Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator
 
Learning Club is seeking a dynamic, people-centered Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator to lead volunteer recruitment, training, and retention across K–12 tutoring programs in Kansas City, Kansas. This role is vital to ensuring that students in our after-school and in-school programs receive consistent, one-on-one support from caring and capable volunteer tutors. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator, organized, and energized by community outreach and relationship-building.
 
Duties include:
 
Volunteer Management (approximately 90% of time):
  • Develop and implement proactive volunteer recruitment strategies, including speaking engagements, community events, online outreach, and other methods of recruitment
  • Ensure each tutoring site is fully staffed with one-on-one volunteer tutors by maintaining a consistent recruitment and engagement pipeline
  • Serve as the first point of contact for prospective volunteers- providing clear, welcoming communication and guidance through the onboarding process
  • Lead all aspects of volunteer onboarding and training, including orientation sessions, site-specific onboarding, and ongoing coaching and support
  • Plan and execute two annual training events (Fall and Spring) to strengthen volunteer skills, refresh safety protocols related to Learning Club’s Child Protection Policy, and build community
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with Learning Club’s Child Protection Policy, including ongoing training, site visits, and document tracking
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date volunteer records and reports using CRM
  • Provide consistent, encouraging feedback to volunteers and implement appreciation efforts (e.g., handwritten notes, gifts, recognition events)
  • Serve as a liaison between volunteers and site staff, ensuring strong communication and collaborative support for every program
  • Maintain and grow relationships with community partners connected to volunteer engagement
Outreach (approximately 10% of time):
  • Collaborate with the development team to support donor communications, including thank-you letters and emails
  • Assist with external communications such as newsletters, fliers, and social media content
  • Help manage Learning Club’s photo archive and promotional materials
  • Occasionally support special events or administrative tasks
Other Duties:
  • Periodically cover for site staff as needed
  • Occasionally attend workshops and webinars and seek out meetings with people in the community to help continue to build a better program for our students and volunteers
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Experience with volunteer coordination or similar experience preferred
  • Experience with social media or basic graphic design preferred 
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing with volunteers, community members, groups of adults, students of various ages, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work two to three evenings a week to train volunteers, tutor, visit sites as needed, and recruit volunteers through presentations and events
Work Schedule:
  • Full-time, salary position. Including 2-3 evenings roughly until 6:00 per week when school is in session. Occasional weekend hours for tutor recruitment (roughly 3-5 times per year)
  • Office at 3027 N. 54th St. in Kansas City, KS.  After-school programs are at different locations in the urban core of KCK
  • Compensation: $50,000-$58,000, plus benefits. Salary is negotiable. More flexible schedule options may be available at a competitive hourly rate
